Crowdfunding vs Crowdsourcing
Crowdfunding: Process of using an online service (Kickstarter) to generate funds for the production of a media product. Investors are rewarded with perks - from credits through to set visits, premiere seats, props.
Example-Kickstarter: 'We Are The Beat' Sci-fi dance film. Has a goal of £47,470. 11 levels of support available, perks include a link to a special spotify playlist, phone wallpapers, 2 tickets to exclusive screening. It has 22 hours to go.
Crowdsourcing: This is the process of using online services such as LinkedIn to find personnel (staff, specialist) to fill roles in your production team for the creation of a media product.
Rockstar games can benefit by using crowdsourcing to hire new environment designers as the employer can search up 'environment designers' and look through profiles to find anybody they deem suitable and message them to ask to hire. As well as this Rockstar can post asking for level designers and people can reply to them and find them using the post. It makes hiring employees much easier.
